Rewards Program Terms and Conditions
I. Coverage
FirstLight Federal Credit Union (“FirstLight”) offers consumer members a relationship rewards program (the “Rewards Program”). This agreement covers the terms and conditions of the program. FirstLight consumer members enrolled in the program are referred to in this agreement as “participants,” “you”, “members”, or “account holder.”
II. Enrollment
All consumer members are automatically enrolled into the FirstLight Rewards Program. For all existing FirstLight consumer members, you will be eligible to start earning points (“Points” or “Rewards Points”) as of August 1, 2020. For new consumer members after August 1, 2020, Points will be earned at account opening. Retroactive credit will not be given for any transactions or relationships prior to August 1, 2020.
It is important to maintain a current email and that all your information is up to date with FirstLight to ensure you receive your statements and other important account notification.
If you elect not to be a part of the Rewards Program or, at any time during your membership, you elect to opt-out of our Rewards Program, you can opt-out by calling our Member Contact Center 1-800-351-1670. Points must be used prior to opt-out or points will be forfeited at opt-out.
To join the Rewards Program once you have opted-out, you will need to opt-in by calling our Member Contact Center 1-800-351-1670.
III. Rewards Programs General Terms and Conditions
The following are the General Terms and Conditions for the Rewards Program:
1. Eligibility is restricted to FirstLight consumer members whose accounts are in good status (as defined below).
2. The rewards and benefits described herein are offered at the sole discretion of FirstLight Federal Credit Union.
3. The terms of the Rewards Program are void where prohibited by federal, state or local law.
4. FirstLight reserves the right to cancel, change in part or temporarily suspend the Rewards Program or any Points earned thereunder at any time without notice.
5. In the event of fraud, gaming, or abuse of the Rewards Program privileges or violation of program rules, FirstLight reserves the right to adjust the amount of the rewards given, cancel membership in the Rewards Program, and/or close the account.
6. Every effort has been made to ensure the information provided regarding the Rewards Program is accurate and complete. FirstLight is not responsible for errors and omissions.
7. Points are awarded based on how the transaction is processed by the merchant and presented to FirstLight. FirstLight is not responsible for merchant’s decision on how the transaction is processed through the network system.
8. Program participants and/or any other beneficiaries of reward benefits, by participating in the Rewards Program or receiving any reward benefits from same, shall release, discharge and hold harmless FirstLight, VISA®, the Rewards Programs administrators and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, officers, directors, successors, and assignees from any and all claims, damages or liabilities related to or arising out of the Rewards Program.
9. Neither FirstLight, VISA® or any other entity associated with the Rewards Programs shall have any liability arising from or related to such Rewards Programs.
10. FirstLight may be required to send and file a 1099-MISC (Miscellaneous Income) for the year in which a reward is redeemed if the value of the points redeemed or cash back earned exceeds an amount set by the Internal Revenue Service. You are responsible for any personal tax liability related to participation in the Rewards Program as a result of points earned and/or redeemed through the Points Program, or money received through the Cash Back Program. Consult a Tax Advisor if you have any question about your tax situation.
11. All questions regarding the accrual of points, the conversion of points into rewards or the accrual/calculation of cash back shall be resolved by FirstLight in its sole discretion.
IV. FirstLight Reward Points Overview
FirstLight Rewards Program provides members with Rewards Points for using their Debit and Credit Card on qualifying purchases and awards Points for the various relationship accounts maintained with the Credit Union. Points may be redeemed for Cash Back Rewards, Fee Reversals, Share Certificate Rate Bump-Ups, and Loan Rate Discounts.
Rewards Points Terms and Conditions for Points Earned:
• Points are awarded at the account level and will be awarded to the primary account holder listed on the account. Points cannot be pooled between different members and/or accounts.
• Cancellation, change or suspension of the Rewards Program by FirstLight could result in the forfeiture of earned points and a change in the redemption of any outstanding rewards. Points must be redeemed prior to cancellation in the Points Program.
• Rewards Points earned under the Rewards Program may not be used with any other discounts or offers.
• Rewards Points generally will be awarded on a monthly basis. Points awarded will be for the total earned for the previous month. However, there are some instances, which include but are not limited to instances of possible fraud, disputes, and statement cycles, where Points awarded can take up to 120 days (or more) to be awarded to your Rewards Point balance.
• FirstLight reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to not award points during periods where you are not in good status (“Good Status”) with the Credit Union. FirstLight Rewards
Program Good Status criteria is provided in this Terms and Conditions below for your reference.
• Rewards are not refundable or exchangeable.
• Rewards Points expire 36 months after the date they have been issued on the last day of the expiring month. For example, if Reward Points are issued to you on July 15, 2020, such Reward Points will expire on July 31, 2023.
Rewards Point Coverage is available on the following products:
• Consumer Credit Cards – FirstLight Visa® Platinum Credit Card
• Consumer Debit Cards – FirstLight Visa® Debit Card
• FirstLight Consumer Loan On-Time Payments
• FirstLight Mortgage Loans
Points are earned as follows:
FirstLight Visa® Platinum Credit Cards will earn ONE Point for every $1 spent on net/qualified purchases.
You will be able to earn Points on net/qualified purchases. A net/qualified purchase is defined as the dollar value of goods and services purchased with the card after enrollment date, minus any credits, returns or other adjustments as reflected on the monthly account statement. A net/qualified purchase does not include cash advances, balance transfers, traveler’s checks, convenience checks, ATM transactions, any fees (e.g., late fees, annual fees, etc.), card related insurance charges (e.g., credit protection insurance), card related service charges, interest charges and/or unauthorized charges.
FirstLight Visa® Debit Cards will earn ONE Point for every $5 spent on net/qualified purchases.
You will be able to earn Points on net/qualified purchases. A net/qualified purchase is defined as the dollar value of goods and services purchased with the card after enrollment date, minus any credits, returns or other adjustments as reflected on the monthly account statement. A net/qualified purchase does not include cash advances, balance transfers, traveler’s checks, convenience checks, ATM transactions, any fees (e.g., late fees, annual fees, etc.), related service charges, and unauthorized charges.
FirstLight Consumer Loan On-Time Payments will earn One Point for every $5.00 of your on-time scheduled monthly payment.
A payment on a consumer loan (which does not include a consumer mortgage loan) is considered on‐time when made on or before the due date. Points awarded will be for the amount of the contract/scheduled monthly loan payment amount. Any additional overpayments to principal or interest, including an early payoff payment where the loan balance is brought to zero, will not be awarded any additional points. This means that, if you make an early payoff payment where the loan balance is brought to zero (or made any additional payment that reduces your principal loan balance), you will only earn and be awarded the same number of points as you would have earned had you paid the normal contractual / scheduled payment amount for the loan. In addition, if you make any pre‐payments months in advance of when such payments are due, the Points will be awarded during the month that the payments were due. If the loan due date is advanced due to skip‐a‐pay, Points for that month(s) skipped will not be eligible for the issuance of Rewards Points for the months skipped.
FirstLight Qualified Mortgage Loans are awarded relationship reward points.
A qualified mortgage loan is any consumer mortgage loan that FirstLight retains servicing rights on. If you have a qualified first mortgage loan and the mortgaged property is owner occupied, you will earn 250 Points per month for your qualified first mortgage. If you have a qualified second mortgage loan(s) with FirstLight (e.g. any mortgage in a 2nd lien position such as Home Equity or HELOC) you will earn 125 points per month for any such other qualified mortgage loan(s). The Rewards Program will NOT award Points for the following types of mortgage loans: business loans, mortgages for non-owner occupied properties, and mortgages which FirstLight does not retain servicing rights. Loans with a full service release (i.e., where FirstLight does not service your mortgage loan) are also not included in, and will not earn Points through, the Rewards Program. All members will receive the same number of Points regardless of the mortgage balance or payment amount.
V. Reward Point Redemption
The following are the general Reward Point Terms and Conditions for the FirstLight Rewards Program for the different options you have for redeeming your Rewards Points earned through the FirstLight Rewards Program:
• Points on hold shall not be available for redemption for other rewards.
• The Rewards Program allows you to redeem points in real‐time.
• If you do not have enough Points for a redemption product, or your account does qualify for the redemption product, the option for that redemption product will be greyed out and not available for you to select.
• To redeem Points, a member needs to be in Good Status. If not in Good Status, Points will be frozen and will not be allowed for redemption. Once the member returns to Good Status with the Credit Union, Points that had been frozen will be released and available for usage. FirstLight Rewards Program Good Status criteria is provided in this Terms and Conditions below for your reference.
• If the account is closed, any unused cash back rewards or Points not redeemed will be forfeited.
• If Points are frozen due to not being in Good Status and are set to expire, such Points will continue to follow the expiration schedule and will be forfeited upon expiration.
• Rewards Points expire 36 months after the date they have been issued on the last day of the expiring month. For example, if Reward Points are issued to you on July 15, 2020, such Reward Points will expire on July 31, 2023.
Cash Back Rewards
Points may be redeemed for cash back rewards in $25 increments up to $125 to be deposited into the share account associated with the primary share account holder with the use of Rewards Points. There is no limit, however, on the amount of $125 cash back rewards you can receive. Upon redemption of Points for a cash back reward, the deposit will appear on the account statement(s) the following month. For every $25 increment of your cash back reward, you will be required to redeem 3,400 Rewards Points. Thus, in order to obtain a $125 cash back reward, you will be required to redeem 17,000 Rewards Points.
Fee Reversals
The Rewards Program allows members to redeem Points in order to have selected fees assessed to their accounts reversed back into their accounts. When redeeming Points for such fee reversals, eligible fees for reversal are limited to those selected fees that, over the past 90 days, have been assessed to one of your accounts (i.e, if a fee was assessed more than 90 days ago, that fee is not eligible for reversal).
Selected fees eligible for reversal include the following fees:
• Non‐FirstLight ATM Fee = 250 Points
• Cashier's Check Fee = 400 points
• NSF Fee = 3200 points
• Courtesy Pay Fee = 3200 points
• Skip‐A‐Pay Fee= 2500 points
Share Certificate Rate Bump-Ups
Our Rewards Program allows you to bump up your share certificate rate 10 basis points (0.10%) for 5,000 Points regardless of the share certificate balance. This rate bump reward is restricted to once per share certificate. If you select a share certificate rate increase on a new share certificate, FirstLight will place the Points on hold and redirect you to our account opening website to open your new share certificate. If you select a share certificate rate increase on an existing share certificate, we will place the Points on hold until the share certificate is renewed. Share Certificate Rate Bump-Up can only be redeemed on new share certificates or once the share certificate has reached maturity and is up for renewal.
Loan Rate Discounts
Our Loan Rate Discount reward allows you to obtain a .25% Annual Percentage Rate Discount with 5,000 Rewards Points for new loans during loan origination. If you select a Loan Rate Discount for redemption, we will place the Points needed for the redemption on hold and you will be redirected to our loan application process to start the new loan application processes. If you do not redeem the Points prior to originating the loan, and if you qualify to redeem any Points during your loan application process, FirstLight will let you know that you have qualified to redeem such Points and, if you so elect, will have you sign our rewards point redemption Revised form to obtain the Loan Rate Discount at that time. If you opt to obtain a Loan Rate Discount and then do not book the loan, the frozen Points will be released back to you. Points maybe frozen for up to 30 days. After 30 days of the loan not being booked, the frozen Points will be released. Loan Rate Discount is only eligible for new loans at origination and cannot be redeemed on existing loans. Loan Rate Reductions excludes credit cards, share/CD secured loans, title loans, Express Loans, mortgage loans or lines of credits.
For redemptions, inquiries and updates, you may:
1. Log in to Online Banking and use the rewards widget within your online banking profile to:
• Redeem any of the rewards you are eligible for based on account qualifications and points balance. If you do not have enough Points to redeem or your account does qualify for the redemption product, the option will be greyed out and not available for you to select.
• Review Points awarded
• Review Points used
• Review Points that are about to expire
2. Call 1-800-351-1670 to speak to one of our Member Contact Center Representatives for assistance. Hours of operation are limited to our standard business operation hours.
FirstLight Federal Credit Union may change or terminate product offerings, limit, modify or cancel any reward, add an unlimited number of blackout dates, change the number of points earned for purchases made on any eligible Rewards Card or change the number of Points required for any reward. While we reserve the right to change the Program at any time with no advance notice, we will endeavor to provide advance notice whenever possible.
VI. Good Status
To earn and redeem Points and remain enrolled in the Rewards Program, your FirstLight Federal Credit Union account relationship must be in good standing or good status (“Good Status”). This means you cannot be in excess of the approved credit line on your Credit Card, be past due on any loan with FirstLight, or have at any time during your membership with FirstLight had a loan or share balance charged off. This may result in the cancellation of your participation in the Rewards Program. Provided your account relationship remains consistently in Good Status, enrollment in the Rewards Program will automatically be renewed each year, unless the negative conditions above occur or are met. As a participant, you will have access to your Reward Balance information. If ever not in Good Status, your Points may be frozen and you may not have access to your Points for redemption. If your Points are frozen, a list of potential reasons why your points are frozen will be provided to you on the widget in Online Banking. For more questions, you can contact us at 1-800-351-1670. Once an account is considered to again be in Good Status, access to Points will be again made available to you. If Points are frozen due to not being in Good Status and are set to expire, such Points will continue to follow expiration schedule and will be forfeited upon expiration.
